VolKoth Dragon Of Fire By MasterTickles aka Larry Boos

VolKoth Dragon Of Fire By MasterTickles aka Larry Boos - LarryBoos (LarryBoos)
Description : I decided to enter miniatures that I'm currently strong at painting, Monsters! I decided to paint for this months entry, Sandra Garrity's VolKoth Dragon Of Fire! I used a new Color Flow Release on the body. The eyes were a challenge but I used my finest brush for the job and I feel it worked fine. I used static grass technique for the base instead of the usual. I also used real granite rocks for the base that I painted to match the rocks that were sculpted in the original base. Along with using static grass I used Hair Grass (That is the long yellow stuff) I had some help from fellow MCMPs Gary and Mike. I feel this is my best dragon to date. Be sure to see other pictures and poses of this dragon in my gallery. Thanks Larry Boos

Very nice reds and yellows. I like the base alot, too. Good job there. The winges look pretty good, but the 'fins' between the webbing look a little bit flat. Overall very nicely done, Larry. :-)

Great base. The colors definitely evoke "fire" - nicely done.

Nice color combo. I like especially the head, with the glowing hot horns and all. Nice base too.

Color transitions in the scales are interesting however in areas there are patches where darklining could benefit. Can't really make out the eyes very well with the picture size. Base looks interesting though picture size takes away from the full appreciation. your reds have come out nicely.

I think this model could use some contrast in several places. Under the right wing, the red could be darker and the yellow lines are the same from front to back. They need some variation. Darker near the front and lighter as the wing spreads and allows more light to come through. Also the yellow scales need the same treatment. Think about where the light is coming from and make them lighter when closer to the light and darker underneath. Just some suggestions.

Tough mini to paint Larry! Nice colour selection.
Looks like you have lots of great input so I won't repeat more of the same. I like the base, just work on those light sources.

Great vivid colour scheme, this is a fire dragon indeed! I also really like the naturalistic base.
