Gandalf the Grey

Gandalf the Grey - Eric Polovich (ThePolo)
Description : Well, this mini is my first GT after at least a year or two of lurking (so hello all!) As for the description, I'm not too sure where to start. I primed him white, and painted the miniature seperate from the base, which is cork, ballast, and static grass. It's my first time using cork on a base, and I kinda like the results (Thanks flynn!)

Since it's a simple mini, I went with a limited pallate. The robe is Reaper 'Ash Grey', worked up to GW 'Fortress Grey'. The leather is VJ Mahogany higlighted with Red Leather, and the skin is Partha Paint 'Dwarf Flesh', highlighted up to GW Elf Flesh. I'm especially happy with how the beard came out... It's just Bleached Bone, washed with diluted chestnut ink, and then touched up with bone white, but I think it came out very well!

Anywho, I liked how this one came out a lot. I thinkn the paint job captures the pose well... and I figured what the heck... it's about time I share something with ths group, eh? Enjoy!

Since I just entered my first GT this month as well I know it is great to get comments so here goes. First off I like the mini, it has a very dynamic pose and a classic gandalf look. The simple pallete was a good idea. The greys look good and the leather and belt buckles are cleanly done. The skin tones look smooth at this size, the eyes seem to be off but it could be the picture. All in all this is a very nice mini are there any other views?

I like the contrast between the grey and the leather parts. The beard is very well done, probably the highlight of the figure for me. It might be the picture, but his staff looks like it could use some more highlighting. Very good first entry!

Glad you like the cork, Eric. I like the color selections here, and the skintones and hair turned out quite nice. The highlighting on the robe looks a bit rough in places...mostly on the chest area. Could be the photo, though.

Grr... nope, that's a chest area issue. Not just the photo. Looked fine in person, until you pointed it out. Durn camera picks up everything! :)

Nice work here, very nice face and the beard and hair are well done, and that's not easy to do with white. I agree with Primeval that the grey robes and leather contrast nicely. What keeps drawing my attention though is what looks loke a dark "wet" spot on the front of his robe just to the left of the bottom tip of the belt. Nice looking base as well. Good effort.

Great Job! It's nice to see the grey version painted of Gandalf. The Cork base looks really great and the grass looks cool too. I do feel however that 1 eye is looking 1 way and the other is looking the other way. Over all Well Done!

Really nice work here. My favorite part has to be the face. The overall feel of the mini is really close to that of the movies, although, I'd have liked to see more highlights on the robes and leather straps.

Base looks good as does the skin. Staff could benefit from more highlights as it stands from this picture it looks kind of flat. Robe and hair come off as drybrushed in areas - maybe more layers of gradual color change would help as well as cleaner darklining in the hair.

Nice first entry, testor's dullcote might help as well as protect your hard work. It's great to get the lurkers involved.

A very nice first piece taht portrays the feeling and the look of the movie well. Some rough highlights but it looks great.

The face is great, a lot of emotion there. I also really like what you've done with the beard, I'll have to remember that and try the recipe. :-> Base is cool, too!
