Velrys- by Zach

Velrys- by Zach - molebrain (molebrain)
Description : Confrontation- Velrys, Prince of the Impure. I love this sculpt by Rackham, even without a painjob it has character, and that's not easy to find. I think the position of the blade in front of the face a little odd, but the other bits are so nice it doesn't really bother me. I used a lot of muted colors, mixes of a basic color with a grey tone for most of the larger areas such as the cloak, face, blue shirt/pants and NMM gold. I guess that's pretty much everything! The base is done Rackham style with cork and sand moss, textured with washes for a (hopefully) more realistic appearance. I learned a bunch from looking at some great miniatures at GenCon this year, and this is the first piece reflecting some of that.

Very striking hero(villain?). I like the color pallette, and the subtle blends on the cloak. Few things look more evil than the green and purple combo. A really nice piece.

The base looks good. I like the transitions from browns to greys. Grass is a touch to brilliant. figure is very smooth and clean. Though not your fault the blades hanging from the cload come off as flat and almost 2D (it would be nice to see them sculpt the blades at an angle in some areas!) The subtle highlights on the cloak come off very well. Great job!

Excellent blending. The chains look really nice also, maybe some tromp loeil for the blades, like Cyril's scratches. Forgive my butchery of the French spelling. Hope to see your demo on Saturday.

The chains really set this guy apart. Ordinarily chains would end up lifeless and dull, but you have given these chains character.

Cheers,
Jack

Very nice, vivid color selection. Great NMM and freehand as well.

Lovely! Wonderful colour palette, and great smooth painting. I like the blades and chains, you've done a spectacular job there. (And everywhere, really.)
