Hogarth the Colossus by Rodnik

Hogarth the Colossus by Rodnik - Kevin Clark (rodnik)
Description : I missed last month, but this month I have Hogarth the Colossus by Rackham.
I started the skin with Reaper Hill Giant Brown, degraded through Caucasian, then through Fair Maiden. It was then selectively shaded down with cork brown. I then added a touch of ivory to the highlights I wanted focuses on overhead. The NMM was done with my usualy recipes, worked a bit differently via technique. I was happy with the result. The steel is Intermediate Blue and Pale Grey Blue
The Gold is Beasty Brown, Ocre Maroon, Dark Flesh, Ivory, and Titanium White.

I used and ink/paint mixture on the leathers, as I wanted the "oiled" look. The skull on the sword I didn't work as gold, but as bone. It was worked up through about 4 or 5 different colors to get the result you see. I concentrated heavily on brush control, paint smoothness and my blends. I was happy with the exercise.
I then put some turtle wax on top of his head, to give it a nice shine. 8)
Enjoy.
Kev

Great stuff, Kev. This one looks like it came straight out of the Rackham catalog. Except for the base, which is very nice. ;-)

hey Kev I have to agree with Flynn, Looks like this mini came from there catalog! Great Job! I like the way you did the gold NMM! A+

This is very good work! The smoothness of the sword is amazing, but my favourite part of this mini is the armour on the knee. It looks very real.
I do think that the skin, even if it's painted very good, lack a little depth, and maybe it's a bit too light for a warrior. But overall it's a very nice paint job!

The smoothness of the NMM on the sword is great. You definitely pulled off the oiled look to the leather (I think I will have to try using inks on leather seeing this). The skin does seem to lack a little depth in places, as Astonia said, mostly the face. But it might be the picture too, as his face looks kind of out of focus.

Nice paint job Kevin. He really does look straight out of the Rackham catalog. I really like the base, very well done, and your NMM is spot on. Others have mentioned the skin, so I'll leave that alone, the one thing on this mini that doesn't work for me is the blue fletching on the arrows. Still a really nice mini!

This figure looks very clean. Details stand out nicely. Blade looks a bit flat and for some reason the blade and skin look a bit plasticy. Base looks cool. I like the striations of highlight in the large chunk of rock under the sword.

Great job, very smooth! I think my favourite part is the shield. I echo the comments others have made about the skin, and I'm also not loving the blue fletching (although I do like the bright red sword hilt.)
