Kommandant Irusk

Kommandant Irusk - Andy Bird (Beelzebrush)
Description : Hi all...

Firstly... great new location for the GT!

Okay... this guy was initially going to be an experiment using the new additional Game Color colours 61-68 - Khaki, Earth, Tan, Terracotta etc. I really like the neutrality of these new paints. However... like most experimnets I kind of got off track and found my self adding all kinds of extra detail.

The freehand on the back is a first. The colours were loosely painted then shaded/highlighted and finally outlined. It was a pretty fiddly job but I enjoyed it and will be experimenting further later :) (need a better brush first I think!)

The armour and other metal areas were supposed to have been painted in metallics but ended up as NMM and a bit of SENMM. I'm pleased with a few areas of this. The Steely NMM was painted using Sombre Grey, Cold Grey, and White folowed by glazes of Smoke and Black.

The check pattern on the hat and coat were added late on into the job. At this point the whole paintjob was starting to get quite 'busy'. With this in mind, I made the base really simple, using similar neutral colours to avoid overloading the detail of the figure itself. I think this works quite well and keeps the mini as the focal point.

Anyway, that's about it. I hope you like it and any comments are appreciated.

Cheers!!

First off I just wanted to say that the paintjob is very clean. The NMM on the blade looks very good. The highlight on the copper? guard on the sword looks like it is highlighted to far and appears washed out. Skintone looks great. Darklining on the checker pattern on the hat and jacket is probably too dark as it stands out too much and is a distraction. It also draws attention to the irregular size of the checker pattern.

Paint job is very clean ... it just looks a little too busy.

Nice paintjob. I really like the NMM and the subdued palette.

I agree with alot that Slorak is saying. It is rather busy and makes my eyes wander all over it finding it hard to focus and enjoy the mini for the quality it offers. I do feel that the NMM looks like high polished metal! Very Nice. Good Job!

OVerall a very smooth clean job. The guard on the sword looks to be a little to starkly highlighted (maybe a glaze to tone it down a bit?), but other than that the NMM is great. The sculpt itself is a little too "busy" (to use the term used by SirGiles) but you have done a good job with it.

Nice freehand on the back, but I can see what everyone says about it being a bit busy. The sword is fantastic, however. The highlight on the mini, in my opinion.

I like most the NMM. Nicely consistent throughout.

The NMM is very nicely done, and I like the colours you've used here a lot. They're a bit different than I would expect to see on this kind of figure, and really work well together. The freehand is very nice. I agree with the comment that the darkline defining the check pattern is too dark.
