Oko Jade Assassin
This month, I present Oko, a Martial Artist from Hasslefree miniatures. These are really cool figures, and would make a super set for sure! Good detail and fine sculpting! I would have liked to enter another one, but sadly she is entered in the Chick Challenge so that is a no go! She is really a gaming quality piece, and I would use her in my RPG for sure :P
For painting, I decided I didn't want a dark black ninja figure. Everyone does those. However, I did want a character that had a bit of meat to her, so I decided on the green.
First off, as usual, I began with the skin and face. I used Vallejo Cork Brown as a base color again, and used Vallejo Flat Flesh and White for highlighting. I mixed in a little Game Color Dark Fleshtone for a bit of shading and lining. The eyes gave me grief for some reason, but I essentially did them via the big black spot, smaller white spot and smallest black spot. I tried a tiny reflection in the right eye. It is the Eiffel Tower in autumn... well no, but hey! Eyebrows are just thinned black. Fingernails I think were basically the Flat Flesh and White...
The dark green was base colored with Game Color Scurf Green. I shaded with a mix of black and the Scurf Green and highlighted by adding GW Snot Green and some Vallejo Lime Green. There were definately some issues here. First off, I usually gloss seal the mini for protection and then do several layers of Dull Cote. This time, I went out in the garage with only Dull Cote, and the next day I looked and all of the mid tone colors and blends were toast. I had to go back and glaze the transitions over to gain some smoothness back. Gaarrrrr.
The lighter green was based with white and then painted Vallejo Lime Green. Mixing in White for highlights. Hand armor was Vallejo German Grey shaded black and highlighted with Game Color Wolf Grey. The Sash had to be purple in my mind, to add the flair of color and it is a nice complimentary color anyways! It was painted using Vallejo Violet, Purple and white.
Basing was a no-no as I had finished painting the figure and usually I like to have the basing done beforehand. I used greenstuff and made a cracked stone base look. The dirt is just sand superglued on. For the rocks, I painted them all with Vallejo German Grey and mixed in Wolf grey for highlights. On some, I added Bestial Brown to the mix to alter the color a little. The sand was just painted with Bubonic Brown, Bestial Brown and Snakebite.
On her back, I wanted to do somethign sort of authentic and also intricate. I thought of some form of symbology or glyph and so I went googling and found this one, "Tsui" which means "Deep Green". Of course, it is seldom used by itself but oh well. Fits my needs and is almost authentic :D
