Varsÿm Cynwäll

Varsÿm Cynwäll
Description : Hi all

This is a Vasrym Cynwäll by Rackham
It’s a very cool mini...I’m definitely gonna have to paint a secound one!

The base is once again normal 3mm cork, the moss is Piedra pómez from Vallejo!
As for the paintjob; he’s my first mini with both a black and a white primary...which helped me quite a bit to get the high contrast.
I started priming the skin with a 50:50 mix of Basic Skintone #017 and US Tan Earth #134, then shaded the hollows with pure 134. and highlighted back till pure 017 and Flat Flesh #006.
His armour was done just like my previous elves basing it with Light Sea Grey #108, shading it with Azure #062, Ultramarine #055, and a mix of 055 and a tiny bit of Violet #047...highlighting it back up till 108 and then 108 and white.
His pants were based with Luftwaffen Blue #105, shaded with German Grey #167, and highlightet with Pale Grey Blue #153.
His rags were based with Field Blue #058, shaded with Oxford Blue #049 and also highlightet with 153. And in some parts I added thin layers of violet...to make it look kind of “shimmering” but its unfortunately not very visible on the foto!
The top of the blades were based with Sky Grey #154 and shaded with Neutral Grey #160 the underside was based with Basalt and highlightet till 160. On the upperside I highlightet back to 154 and till white.
The colors on the blades are simply very thin layers! The blue ones start with Azure, then a mix Azure and Ultramarine, and the third pure Ultramarine. The green ones are out of Emerald #071, 071 + Park Green Flat #073, 073 + a very small shot of Black Green #100.
And the Gold was done with Dark Yellow #116, shaded till pure Flat Earth #143,,,highlightet back to 116..and white again.
When all parts had color on them. I repainted and ajusted all the highlights on EVERY part of the mini. Meaning I mixed myself the exact colorsmixes, starting from the basecolor till the last highlight color (sometimes also shading colors if necessary). For example to ajust the highlights of the pants I mixed myself one mix pur Luftwaffen Blue;LuftwaffenBlue³+Pale Grey Blue; Luftwaffen Blue²+Pale Grey Blue², Luftwaffen Blue+Pale Grey Blue³; pure Pale Grey Blue. I use normal crown caps to mix my paints in...that way I can dilute the colors heavily!
Hope it helps anyone ;)

Your technique is awesome, no doubt about this. Personally I am not a big fan of the Cynwäll minis, but I can't find anything to critic about your painting. My favorite parts are the dark trousers and hood.
Being veeeery nit-picking I think the base would look better with more subdued greens.
Great work overall :)

Wow, just fantastic! The smooth gradation of colour is wonderful. My favourite part is the highlighting on the mask indicating the facial features below.

Howdy- wow a 'fresh' take on the paint scheme (at least for me). Solid work all around. -peace
