15mm knight by Angela Imrie

15mm knight by Angela Imrie
Description : Hi all!
It has been awhiles since I participated in the GT. So after a recent extended painting hiatus, I've decided to throw my mediocre attempts back into the ring.

The is a 15mm Empire knight for the game DemonWorld. He is mounted on a standard 25mm round base. These bases also fit nicely into the slots provided on the DemonWorld hex game base (as if we'll ever play :P) Anyhow he'll make a great gnome paladin or something for a D&D game as he is.

The figure was mounted on the base and started well over a year ago. The meager attempts at painting static grass are also from that period. I didn't get much further than a base coat of blue on the cloak until this last month.

So after literally blowing over a year's worth of dust off this model he got a quick rinse under the tap to remove any further grime. The armor was base coated Vallejo's Intermediate Blue. The highlights were built by simply adding white to the Intermediate Blue color mix and added on in gradually lighter layers. The final highlight was pure white. Due to the smaller nature of the figure I decide on using an ink to darken the Intermediate Blue for the shaded areas. The ink was an old old GW ink called Armor Wash. It is a blue black ink wash used on metallics, but worked very well at going in the tiny crevices on this guy and mixing in with the Vallejo paint.

The white on his helmet's plume is a base coat of Vallejo's Azure with white highlights. The Blue stripe is an old GW paint called Nauseating Blue. The plume's highlights are Ultramarine blue with some Azure added in for the final highlights.

The cloak is an Ultramarine Blue base coat. It was shaded with a custom mix of Blue that I had whipped up some time ago from three or four different paints and inks (please don't ask which, I don't know either) My closest guess for a shade color would be the GW armor Wash in this case. The highlights are simply white mixed in with Ultra Marine's Blue and added on in layers.

The swords are actually different colors on the front than they are on the back! The back was done with the basic color being GW's Shadow Grey, with highlights built up to white. The front view shows the swords being the same color as the armor, which is Intermediate Blue up to White highlights. No, I don't know what reason I had for doing it this way.

The mini was sealed extensively to prevent the blue bleeding into the other colors before adding the NMM gold. The NMM gold is a wee bit of Charcoal Brown mixed into GW's Bestial Brown for outlining and the darkest areas. The next colors were GW Bestial Brown, Vallejo's Ochre Brown, Vallejo's Golden Yellow and finally white for the color mix progression. This was sealed as well. The freehand on the cloak was all NMM gold. The creature was referenced from an art book I have laying around for inspiration. No idea what creature it is supposed to be, but it looks pretty neat. :D

After a shot of dullcote, I allowed the figure to dry for a few days and there was still a wee bit of the blue bleeding into the golds, so I went back and touched up the affected areas, sealing it again. Satisfied with the lack of Blue bleeding, he got a coat of gloss (he is supposed to be a gaming model after all) and two more layers of dullcote for matte finish.

Amazing! I couldn't get such crisp frehand detail n a 54mm miniature and you pull it off on a 15mm. Great work. I also like the rich blue of the cloak.
But the blending on the armor looks a little rough ;P

I wouldn't have guessed the smaller size of this figure, amazing work in such a tiny space! The armour looks great, and the freehand is lovely!
