Kroot Hound by Bryan

Kroot Hound by Bryan "Tinweasel" Wride
Description : Starting from a Citadel White Primer base, I washed all flesh areas in 1:1 Codex Grey/Striking Scorpion Green. Working up from there, I began highlighting all areas except the deepest recessions with Codex Grey/Striking Scorpion Green, gradually adding in Skull White to work up to the highest edge and surface highlights.

For the spines and underbelly, I washed all areas with Brown Ink for shadowing. I then layered 1:1:1 Brown Ink/Bubonic Brown/Bleached Bone over all raised areas leaving this color as-is for the underbelly but gradually working in White up to the tips of the spines.

The leather was a Brown Ink/Bestial Brown mixture with Bleached Bone mixed in and worked up for extreme edge highlights.

The metal base color was 1:1 Brown Ink and an old bottle of Citadel "Gold," with more "Gold" added in for surface highlights on the raised portions.

The tongue is a very cool-looking color that unfortunately doesn't translate quite right into pictures, but is a mixture of Chaos Black/Electric Blue with more Blue for highlights and a glaze of thinned Snot Green to tie the color back in with the rest of the miniature.

The base is detailed with fresh non-clumping kitty litter and cornmeal, and a nice yellowy-white color on the stone with a wash of Black/Brown Ink/Snot Green to tone down the brightness.

Your painting looks very smooth. Nice choice of colors too.
You really made me curios about the color of the tongue. Will have to mix some Electric Blue and black right away ;)

Just a cool looking fig and the paint is really nice. The colors just seem to fit the attitude of the Kroot. I'm with Gunji, the tounge is just a cool color that i will have to try someday.

I like the skin alot! It has a suttle blending that helps acheive "life!" I curious who makes this tricked out monster stead? My Fav is the spines great Job! My only opion or advice is maybe some stripes or spots like that of certain real lizards. 2 cents

These are by Games Workshop for the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop wargame. The Kroot are mercenary additions to one of their standard armies (the Tau) and the Hounds are a dog-like species of Kroot. I hadn't considered spots, actually. Not sure where I would paint them that it wouldn't look "forced" as the top/back is already kinda busy with spines and leather gear.
