Lord Drosophilus, Daemon Prince of Nurgle by LavronYor

Lord Drosophilus, Daemon Prince of Nurgle by LavronYor
Description : As I stated below, this is my first real attempt at sculpting. I started with the head and hands of an old GW Pink Horror. For the base, I used a plumbers putty which cures in less than 20 minutes. I then created a wire armature and made the basic figure with the quick putty pretty much in the shape of Games Workshop's Daemon Prince. After reading several articles on sculpting, I switched to Green Stuff and made the armor and the Fly backpack. I cut the wings out of clear plastic and then added the trim with rolled out Green Stuff. The Scythe, I made from a GW Tyranid Scything Talon and a Chaos Warrior Axe head. Pretty much everything was primed Black. For the armor, I started with Dark Green and then blended up to Camo Green. This can be seen on the legs and under the arm. The boots were just Cold Grey and black. I then glazed the armor and boots with Dead Flesh. For me, it is kind of like a modified dry brush technique. I did the face next with much thinner paints than I usually use, starting with Dark Flesh and blending up to Elf Flesh. Before doing the backpack and trim, I re read the rust and verde gris article in Rackham's Cry Havoc 2 book.( excellent painting article btw.) I then used Dark Flesh and black and painted it very patchy, with some areas more red and others very dark brown. I then painted areas with Pure Dark Green and then for the verde gris effect, Dark Green mixed with White. Finally, for the eyes on the flys, I used Dark Green and black and Bile Green for the rim, and then three coats of gloss varnish.
Again, as stated below, I would appreciate any comments on sculpting or on painting with very thin paints.
sincerely, M

I missed the description box, so I will continue. The armor was then glazed with Dead Flesh. The "Fly backpack" and trim was Brassy Brass, then patches of Dark Flesh and mixes of DF and black. Then Dark Green was added and the patina was a mix of D Green and white.

The eyes were painted with Dark Green, Black and Bilious Green for the rim. Then three coats of Gloss Varnish. The flesh started with Dark Flesh and was blended imprecisedly with Elf Flesh.

As I said, this is my first attempt at sculpting, everything except the head and hands, which came from an old Games Workshop Pink Horror, is made from Green Stuff.
I am trying to learn to paint with much thinner paints, so any comments on this or sculpting will be appreciated.

A very good first effort. One thing though - he looks as if he is loosing the scythe any moment. As for the painting - I think your thinner paints experiment was quite successfull. The blending looks very good. The verdigris effect could use some more work and contrast imho.
