My entry for this month is a Reptus Warlord by Reaper Miniatures. I absolutely loved this sculpt for both the looks and the attitude it gives off. I apologize for the picture; I’m still trying to figure out how to get better pictures from the cheap digicam I used.
Since this mini was intended to be a Ss’ressen champion from the Arcanis game world I wanted to make sure it was as close to the game description as I could paint it. The skin started off as Dark Angel Green, followed by Snot green. The scales then received a dry brush of Goblin Green, with a final dry brush of Scorpion Green. Since Ss’ressen are suppose to have molted green scales I purposefully made the dry brush uneven so darker scales can be seen next to the lighter scales.
For the armor I wanted a well cared for but aged and battered look. I started with a base of Tin Bitz, and then dry brushed with Boltgun metal. After that I gave the armor an alternating ink wash of Green, Blue and Chestnut between each dry brush of Boltgun, Chainmail and Mithril Silver with the last wash a very thin GW Flesh Wash ink. I replaced the original halberd weapon with an axe head and stained the Mithril Silver with a Green ink for contrast with the dry brushed gold on the axe designs.
The base was my first attempt at using pumice gel and cork board, as in the tutorial written by Flynn on the Jenova Message Boards. I used a 30mm base, as this is a rather large figure, and to contrast with the green scales chose to paint the pumice as a muddy appearance. The cork board was dry brushed with various grays for a stone appearance. |
