Ultramarines Techmarine

Ultramarines Techmarine
Description : Okay, here we go, my first ever entry here.

This was a very complex sculpt with a LOT of detail on it. I started off with the blue, giving an Ultramarines Blue basecoat and glazing it over with a mix of Black and Blue ink. Then highlighted up to Space Wolves Grey.

His 'Loin Cloth' was painted using Vallejo Model Colour Cadium Maroon and highlighted up mixing small amounts of Bleached Bone to it.

The reds were done using a basecoat of Vallejo Model Colour Cadium Maroon and highlighted adding small amounts of Blood Red.

Blacks were highlighted mixing in small amounts of Bleached Bone for highlights, and whites were given a Ghostly Grey basecoat followed by Skull White.

There are a lot of metallics on this figure and I used 2 different techniques. Some areas were painted Boltgun Metal and given either a black ink wash or a Chestnut ink wash, and then highlighted up through Chainmail and finally Mythril Silver. Others such as the axe head and servo harness metals were painted Tin Bitz first, then Boltgun Metal. I gave them a Black ink wash before highlighting up through Chainmail and Mythril Silver again. This gave these areas a more stained and used look.

The yellows on the warning stripes were painted using Vomit Brown and highlighted with Bleached Bone.

Finally the base was made using cork tiles and static grass.

Hope this is sufficient :).

Beautiful job overall, the metallics look really nice as does the yellow and black.

I really like this piece. Great detail work, good job on the metals. The rock base looks like cork, my suggestion would be to work it over with a knife so it's not distinguishable as distinct layers. The pic is a bit small, so it's hard to judge the detail work, but I can tell its a great piece.

I would love to see a bigger of this one. The metallics look very well done. I agree with Hal about the base though (but this is just a minor 'critic' ;). Great work as far as I can tell.
