Lich Lord Asphyxious by Mengu

Lich Lord Asphyxious by Mengu
Description : Haven't been posting for a while, not because I haven't been painting, but mainly because I'm not liking most things I paint, or because I often have to rush them. With this one I was able to take some time.

It's the first time I dabbled in bronze. It's a base of Parasite brown mixed with Cadmium Maroon, with a touch of Brown liner. I shaded down to brown liner, highlighted up to parasite brown, then elf flesh, then linen white.

Another experiment was the golds. I decided to use VMC dark yellow as a base for the gold. I'm always told to never shade yellow with black, so... I shaded yellow with black. I added black very gradually to the dark yellow. I used a very thin dark green glaze to help blend and add some interest. Then I highlighted adding linen white to the dark yellow.

The Skirt was a huge expanse of color, so it was not easy to blend. When it was done, I decided to add some free hand to break up it's monotony a bit, and used a slight variation of my bronze color for the freehand.

The floating souls were an attempt at making them seem like they were flowing. I tried to use the concept art as a basis, but without the right background, it doesn't have the same effect. In hind sight, I should have gone with a different approach.

The eye on the weapon is supposed to be a draconic eye. So I sat down and looked through a bunch of dragon paintings, and tried to pick an eye that I liked. In the end, I decided I didn't completely like any of them, and used aspects from a few eyes to make my own.

Any and all feedback is appreciated as usual.

Impressive paintjob overall.
What I like: the cloak's blending, the bronze color (some highlight needed), the weapon (the metal and the eye are wonderful). What I don't: the bronze freehand on the vest, the gold, the souls (less "quality" vs the rest). Excelent job

The Bronze is amazing. As is teh green, perfect blending, smooth texture... the figure itself is so cool too.

The bronze looks awesome, great take on the model. Only bad point for me, is the gold. But otherwise, OMG.

good blend on skirt, better blend needed on flowing skulls, needs contrasting color of flowing skulls to stand out, love the sharp and cool details!

Mengu, excellent job on the cloak, the NMM, especially on the weapon, and the eye. Toruk would be proud. Bronze however is a much browner/greener metal and if it highlights to white, your gold should be lighter too. Still, very excellent work.
