Word Bearers Dark Apostle by Tinweasel

Word Bearers Dark Apostle by Tinweasel
Description : Based on a GW Space Marine Terminator Chaplain figure, this marks the first outright conversion I've ever done. The figure is intended to represent a Dark Apostle of the Word Bearers army, essentially a heroic figure turned to Chaos whose bloated, defiled flesh is overflowing from his armor in parts and only held in check by the framework/trim of the armor itself. The studs, spikes, flesh, and parchments were all sculpted on by myself.

In terms of painting, I was going for an ancient, weathered appearance with battle-worn armor the color of dried blood, ancient weathered metals, old parchment/skin litanies, and a "power mace" fashioned from his old Crozius Chaplain icon. The icon was painted freehand, with a white basecoat, black ink for the icon itself, and glazes to color the flames.

The base was also custom-built, and the weathered Imperial Eagle is entirely freehand. I used selective washes and drybrushing on the base tiles, for a centuries-old feel to the broken ground he is standing on.

I used various mixtures of paint and ink for the armor, the coloration of the bloated flesh, and glazing on the power mace and eyes. I also tried to make the skin areas appear somewhat translucent, and (hopefully) small veins are visible beneath the skin itself. There is a more detailed tutorial posted on my website, for those interested: http://home.comcast.net/~tinweasel

I like the glow around the eyes and the mace. Freehand on the shoulder looks nice and clean. The armor trims could benefit from some darklining.

Howdy - ok so when I first saw this guy on another list, I was not sure I liked it, to be honest. But seeing it again, I beleive you are slowly wining me over - lol. As said the eyes are great. The base work is GREAT. Nice conversions/additions as well. peace

Great conversion job... the best part of miniature painting imho. gj

Excellent job here. I like the conversion and the base. My only criticism is that the parchment color is too close to the armor and the gun. Still, really good, also nice writeup.
