This was painted as a Christmas present to a dear friend of mine. Color selection was based on her favorite color (purple) along with several analogous colors for the other major areas. Teal and blue were used to keep the cool theme, and to contrast with the red hair. Three natural colors were used as accents, the green, yellow and red on the leaves.
All were done with Citadel Colors, making extensive use of their more recent neutral colors such as Catachan Green and Terracotta.
I used a lot of feathed layering on the model, and my beloved tinted steel technique for the blade. I mix Dark Green Ink with Chainmail for the basecoat, hilighting with Mithril Silver added. Then I did a thinned wash of OOP Green Ink, and re-hilight with Mithril afterwards. A tiny bit of Dark Green Ink was added around the base of the weapon after everything was dry. Generally I try to avoid pure silver on any Wood Elf model, choosing this method or doing blue steel by subbing in OOP Sky Blue Ink and Dark Blue Ink.
For several reasons I didn't like the sword held opposite the spear, so I cut it off and repositioned the arm to hold the owl taken from Dryad plastics. Special attention was also paid to the wrestling Spites on the base, one of my favorite features of the original model.

Overall a good contrasted mini with a nice, unusual color scheme that I like. Two things to mention though: the left hand reflects the holding posture (not good for me in the new position) and the greenish look of the spear doesn't fit with the rest of the color scheme for me. Good job

Gosh, the technique is awesome!! But my goodness, the colors just do not work for me. I have a hard time looking at it. I think you tried to do too much with the colors and it seems garish.

Howdy (BAH don't listen to them... hahah just kidding) I think the colors are fine. That gem is amazing. Dig the hair and the overall clean sharp work! peace

Nice work Dan, I agree that the color saturation in the pic is a little too high. I like this piece, I feel that it needs some earthy dirt to show a closer touch with the forest. Also, the hair needs some lighter highlights.
Good Stuff.
