Well I have not really painted for some time and I decided that after missing so many GTs I had best enter! Of course, this idea came to me last night, so I decided I would paint up a Hasslefree Kung Fu fellow real quick the night of the deadline, just to get my juices flowing. So about 3 and a half hours later, i snapped pics of Kung Fu Joe.
I wanted to try something different with his shirt, an attempt to emulate a silk that changes color at different angles, and I chose purple as a base color and a nice contrasting turquoise to contrast. I think that if I actually took my time, it would turn out but this time I don't think so. I used mostly Vallejo paints for the clothing; Oxford Blue, Violet, Turquoise, Ice Blue (GW), and the pants as well; German Grey, Wolf Grey. The face was very quick as well, and I used GW paints there, Flat Brown (Vallejo), Dwarf Flesh and Elf Flesh. The hair is my new favorite blonde mix of Graveyard Earth, Bone White and White.
I decided that since he is on a big base, I would have a little stream running between his legs. I sculpted the rocky sides from greenstuff and painted them using various browns. The water is my neat trick where I paint the base underneath with light blues and then apply clear craft glue over top.
Due to the need for trepidity, I used a micron pen to quickly do the eyes.
Not a showcase entry to be sure, but something that will get me excited enough to do one next month!

I probably couldn't finish basecoats on a fig in 3.5 hours, so I'm impressed with your speed! The base is neat, and I like his hair and skin. I think the idea for the coat is sound, but didn't quite work. I really hope you try it again taking more time some time!
