Alric, King of Dwarves by Glyn

Alric, King of Dwarves by Glyn
Description : Alric, King of Dwarves...

I am very excited at this fella's completion for a few reasons really. First, he has been a commission sitting on my desk for a year, and thank Arioch, my client is patient! For some reason, I just didn't want to work on him, and it showed in my other paintjobs recently. Basically, I would do a little on these guys, and fire off a mediocre mini every month. Not much drive, and definately no self-challenge there. Secondly, this is my first wooden display base with the whole sculpted slots schebang...

I painted the King and his bearers in metallics after really failing with NMM miserably. I like to shade the metals with ink washes, and then I mix the inks in with the metals to blend it all nicely. In the end, I like the results with the metals, and I feel they capture the essence of the Dwarves a lot better.

The reds were all done with Gore red, Blood red and light flesh. The beards were all various GW colors, and the skin was a mix of dark fleshtone, dwarf flesh and perhaps cork brown, I can't recall since it was so long ago now!!!

At any rate, please check out my painter album for a lot more pics and it's worth it :D

I like this piece and I also agree with you regarding the metallics, Dwarves look better in metallics rather than NMM.

Well done.

Really nice job on the metals, the beards, and the book. The top of the wings seems to go from charred brown to bestial brown with no blending and the King's arms need some contrast between top and bottom. Still, great to finish and it does look very Dwarvish.
