Viktoria in red

Viktoria in red
Description : This is the awesome Viktoria figure sculpted by Edgar Ramos available through Wyrd Miniatures. She has been painted using Reaper Master Series paint and stands poised and ready to strike atop a rusty industrial spire which is custom scratchbuilt from various plastic bits. I thought that this particular figure lent itself well to warm colors, especially since most everyone else has painted her in cool and dark colors.

I painted her skin using the Reaper MSP Tanned flesh triad for base, shadows and highlights. The red suit was basecoated with MSP Rust Brown followed by too numerous glazes of MSP Walnut. I use Liquitex matte medium and a teeny bit of W&N Flow Improver with 50% water as a glaze medium. To this I then add the color pigment until it comes up to the opacity I'm looking for. The red highlights were created with MSP Blood Red and teeny bit of Fire Orange.

The armor areas were based with 3-4 thin, thin coats of MSP Antique Gold directly over white primer. This was glazed with a coat of MSP Oiled Leather and MSP Walnut then highlighted with MSP New Gold. The swords are MSP Shadowed Steel highlighted with Polished Silver.

The base was a lot of fun top make and paint. The bits are from some aircraft missle pods, tank wheels, a fitting from a lawn sprinkler assembly, and stacks of tiny plastic cubes cut from styrene strips. I spray primered it Rust-o-leum gray and did an initial wash of MSP Walnut. This was highlighted with MSP Twilght Blue and a bit of Polished Bone. To finish it off, I highlighted areas and added streaks with Rust Brown.

The overall look I wanted to achieve was a gradual fade from black at the base to a firey yellow at the top on the minature as a whole. This is more evident when viwing the smaller thumbnail image.

Poll results:
Number 11 overall.

From the technical point of view I love the base and the general look. The red and the skin would need a little more highlight as well as the rust on the base. But I am terribly interested in the concept of fading from the black to yellow along the mini. Bravo!

I think more contrast is needed on the NMM parts, but otherwise a good job.

Nice job on the base and most of the reds. The flesh needs more contrast, especially under the buttocks and under the arm. Also, it looks like you need some light source from the front when shooting the pictures. Still, good work.
