Eriu, Greatsword Champion by Wren

Eriu, Greatsword Champion by Wren
Description : The NMM was a primary focus for me with this one. I used it as an opportunity to try to work on smooth blends. The sword blade took five hours of work. I also played around with using the metal areas as part of the colour scheme instead of thinking of them as neutral colours. The shading on the sword has a touch of a bluish purple to play off the breast plate and bikini/boot colours. This is a new NMM gold recipe for me, based on one posted by Mengu over on the Reaper boards.

I’m told I have a fairly muted/naturalistic painting style, so I wanted to challenge that a bit by trying a much paler skin than I usually do, and pairing that with dark hair and strong colour combinations for the other elements of the fig. All paint used is Reaper Master Series with the exception of the paint on the rock. There are additional views up at http://www.coolminiornot.com/122874.

Wren, that is a beautiful job on the blade and the smooth blending. If the breastplate is supposed to be copper, I think it needs a little more of an orange tint, but overall, the technique looks great. BTW, are you going to Gencon this year?

Wow, I really like the blade and the breastplate. I think the photo is a bit overexposed though and that's letting you down. The face looks amazing too. Great!

Thanks for the comments! Yep, I'm planning to attend GenCon, are you? I agree, the copper recipe needs tweaking.

Wow! The flesh tone and base are superb!
