Iosan Fighter by Gunji

Iosan Fighter by Gunji
Description : My contribution this month is the Iosan Fighter from Privateer Press' fantastic Iron Kingdoms range of miniatures. So far I had only seen painted version picturing more or less as a 'good guy' using brighter colors. I wanted to take a different approach and tried to create a very dark and moody atmosphere taking the 'evil route'.

To emphasize the atmosphere I decided to chose a rather limited pallete. All mixes, expet the eyes and the golden metallics were based on Reaper Master Series' Nightshade Purple. On the tabard/mantle I went for a two tone effect by highlighting selected parts by adding blues and greys and other parts by adding reds and greys. Several glazes were used to create smooth transitions between the different colored areas.

The golden parts where first painted with Tin Bits, followed by Antique Gold. For the highlights I just added Silver. The patina/shading was done with dark greens and turquoise. The silver parts are the GW metallics - Boltgun, highlighted with Chainmail and Silver - followed by glazes with black and several times with Nightshade Purple and Imperial Purple to create a colored tint.

I managed to finish the mini just in time for the Red Devil painting competition held at Miniaturansichten in Witten/Germany and much to my surprise I actually managed to get silver in the Single Miniature Standard category :)

Very nice! The way you've painted this and the colours you've used really accents the nature of the sculpt. Great moody feel. Some of the highlights on his loincloth look a little streaky/harsh.
