My entry this month was meant to be finished for the Wyrd contest, Total Testosterone 2, and then for last months Toadstools, but real life sometimes intervenes, so..
Starting from a black priming, I then reprimed with Vallejo Game Color Scorched Brown as it seemed to make a better surface. Deviating even further from my norm, I have started using some wetpallettes, especially for related colors, like skin tones. I find that mixing is easier and as the paint stays wet, small adjustments are much easier. I also did this for the red armor, and for my latest attempt at NMM. Having recorded several written tutorials, I listen to painting advice on the way to and from work on my ipod. Hence when you hear the Vallejo painting guide and several articles from Cry Havoc, several times, some ideas start to sink in. It is not rocket science, it is just a way to unlearn bad painting habits.
I did the flesh first with the usual VGC scorched brown to Dwarf flesh to elf flesh, mixing several layers in between each, and painting again, much thinner than usual. The tattoo lines are painted on with VGC midnight blue and black thinned down like India Ink. The reds are the usual VGC scab to blood to red orange and then glazed with blood red to help unify. The sword left the red orange unglazed. The NMM was black with cold grey and then white and on the wet pallette, it is much easier to have ten different shades of grey. I was very happy with how the leather came out as it was just scorched brown then very thin layers of VGC scorched brown and VMC green ochre mixed for the highlights. I like creative bases and use plumbers putty as it is much cheaper than green stuff and cures in minutes. I then finished the base as light grey gravel then added Games Workshops new instant snow. A few tufts of static grass and I called it finished. Please feel free to comment. Cheers.
I forgot, the Ice chunks are rock salt. Also, there are several more pix in my Painter's Album.

Howdy - it has been a bit since I personally have seen your work, and it is nice to see the improvment! Good work (BUT fix the gosh darn focus on the photos - lol) peace
