Valdenar, Baron of Doriman

Valdenar, Baron of Doriman
Description : This was painted for my own Alahan army and was primed white for starters. I changed up the color scheme just a little from the stock photo opting to use pale blue for the plume and the star on the chest. The only red used is on the cape. This was the first time I have tried to do this kind of intircate freehand design. I am only moderately satisfied with the results and need to add a bit more depth to it next time. Any hints would be appreciated. The banding on the cloak was done by masking off the strip with masking tape. Unfortunately too much of the paint pooled at the bottom leaving a ridge that I have tried to get rid of.

Oh, my new painting blog is here:

Nice looking piece. really like the armor. The frehand is not bad either. The NMM is VERY well done. great work on the filigree on the armor as well.
Cheers, grumb

I like the touches of brighter blue quite a bit. The scratches are well done, and the freehand looks steady. I think the weapons need a few more reflective, brighter areas to read more as metal.

I agree with the comments by Wren reference the NMM on the weapons. Does the cloak fold behind the figure? It looks as if you have concentrated on the freehand on the left hand side and left the other bit as a red line. The white on the tabard/loin cloth looks a little rough but other than that I like the blue effect of the armour with the gold trim.

Great job on an intricate model. Thanks for the masking tape tip.Do others do this?
