Imperial Missionary by kukn

Imperial Missionary by kukn
Description : My first attempt at NMM. All in all I'm quite happy with how it worked out, although the NMM don't look that metally.
This chap is a converted plastic Catachan Imperial Guard (GW).
Right hand - from a plastic GW Dwarf model (hammer hand), the handle was wrapped with wire
Torchhead - 2 plastic dwarf crossbow bolt holders back to back, the arrows were melded into the flame with toulen
Head - hair lengthened, slight scar across face and nose
Necklace - "sculpted" out of plastic sprues, templar cross-shaped with skull, chain out of wire
Robes - plastic jacket smoothened out a bit, bottom parts made from green stuff

Painting (new style for most colours, without ink shades):
NMM - steel: base black, 60% grey higlight, then 75% and white
NMM - gold: base mix of brown, yellow and black (worked out to a dark green-brown), Snakebite Leather highlight (medium brown),

then Leprous Brown (orangy light brown), mix with yellow, yellow, white
White robe: Ghost grey (75% grey), mostly covered with white highlight
Red: medium red, highlighted with mixed in white, 3 layers
Skin: Bronzed flesh, Pallid flesh highlight, then mix with white
Purple: Warlock Purple, shaded with watered black, base colour higlight, then mix with white (3 layers)
Yellow hair: medium brown base, highlighted with yellow 2 times, then mix with white (2 layers)
Eyes: black shades with white bulbs (on purpose to shine out - scary, angry)

Comments and helpful tips very much appreciated (esp. about the NMM and eyes)

I think the NMM looks good. I think the pupils look too small. Also, the color choices seem to be at odds with each other.

Neat conversion, but the hand seems way too big for the mini. It's almost as big as his head. I like the wire wrap on the handle, nice touch. The eyes need a bit more work, and the contrasts on the NMM are a little harsh. Cheers, grumb

Thanks for those comments. The hand itself is an un-altered dwarf hand. I must say I didn't realise how disproportionate it is, but I'm used to GW models being slightly cartoony. The eyes don't have pupils, they were meant as "blazing", like some powerful made-up beings have.

I think most things have been said already about this so I will not repeat them. The Khaki/earth colour of the coat though looks as if it has just the one colour it could could benefit from some shading around the folds.
