I was bitten by the pre-heresy bug after reading Horus Rising and False Gods by GW so I decided to create a Son's of Horus marine on Davin's moon. In the book False Gods the moon of Davin is a mud ball, full of swamps and pretty much lifeless.
I therefore decided to go for a battered appearance to the armour as if he has just waded through swamps and fought over muddy ground.
The base coat for this was a mix of GW Goblin Green and VGC Wolf Grey. This was higlighted with VGC Ghost Grey and shading was by adding increasing amounts of VGC Cobra leather to the original base coat. After this I added several coats of well watered down Daler Rowney Pearlescent Tinting Medium to all the green areas (In the books the Son's of Horus have metallic green armour)although apparent on the mini seems to have been lost in the photography process.
After this I added some scratches to the armour before washing the parts of the mini a few times with VGC Cobra Leather and then a few times with GW Dark Flesh.
All Comments and Criticism gretfully received.
Yours
John.

He looks good! I think some of the pearlesence of the armour comes through in the photo, I like it in general. The chips and general wear look good, too.

The chips and scratches I don't have a problem with on this mini but the brown rust/dirt seems odd in a lot of places as if it shouldn't be there at all in some respects. I also think it is a bit heavy in some areas and too thin in others, example being the the lower leg plating of the armour the mud/rusy is smooth and heavy but on the shoe/boot areas it is very thin. I also find the shine distacting but that is probably just me.

Nice pose, I agree that the brown seems a little much. Maybe a glaze to tone it down.
