This piece was inspired by my favourite GW Assassin illustration.
To start with the torso was removed from the legs using a heavy bladed craft knife & then the legs were sculpted onto a wire armature. I did not feel confident enough to sculpt the feet so I used the feet from an Eldar guardian, filed down and pinned into place.
The pillar is a piece of plastic tubing with an eagle from the shoulder of an old Judge Dredd figure. The back of the eagle was filled with milliputt and pressed against the plastic tubing to obtain an indentation and when it was dry it was filed down to smooth the area slightly, pinned and then glued to the pillar. To complete the pillar I coated it with some textured masonry paint.
The base was built up with milliputt. Before the milliputt dried i pressed some lumps of baked and splintered sculpey into it to represent fallen masonry and I also added some steel girders made from plasticard. When the milliputt was dry I used PVA glue and textured the base with sand.
The figure was basecoated black and this was highlighted up with GW Space Wolves Grey before being given a few washes of Black Ink and watered down GW Hawk Turquoise to blend it all together.
The NMM on the gun started with a basecoat of GW Codex Grey before being shaded down with a 50:50 mix of GW Scorched Brown and Chaos Black being added to the Codex Grey. The highlights were just GW Skull White added to the Codex Grey.
The mask, while being hard to see is a piece I like. It was base coated with VGC Wolf Grey before being highlighted up to pure Skull White. I painted the eyes of the Assassin onto the Visor before mixing up some Gloss Varnish and Green Ink and giving the visor several coats of this. Up close it allows the viewer to see the eyes of the Assassin behind the deep green visor.
The pillar was base coated Codex Grey before being highlighted with small amounts of Skull White added to it. The weathering on the pillar was achieved by using multiple controlled washes of GW Goblin Green, followed by a few washes of GW Bestial Brown before a final few washes of GW Goblin Green to tie the initial Green in with the brown.
The girders were painted the same as the gun, but they were given a few washes of a 50:50 mix of GW Blazing Orange and GW Bestial Brown.
Static grass was added selectively to the base before being drybrushed with Goblin Green and then lightly with GW Rotting Flesh to reduce the artificialness of the static grass.
Thanks for looking, all comments/criticism and pointers gratefully received.

This is just fantastic, and instantly reminded me of the artwork that inspires it. Very nice NMM, I especially love the gold on the knife, and some very smoothblends. The base is fantastic too, Well done on a great paintjob.

I don't think I've seen the original artwork that inspired this, but I like it a lot and feel it stands fine on its own. It's a great scene, and very strikingly and effectively painted.I particularly like the little details like the streaks of dirt on the pillar, the rust on the beams, etc.

Excellent job. Very nice on the black, which is hard to do. I don't know what the black thing is at shoulder height and I don't know about a shiny knife, but the basing is awesome. Very nice.
