Thrud the Barbarian - all 90mm of him! (by Avicenna)
Description
:
This 54mm scale incarnation of everybody's favourite barbarian is a recent release by Heresy Miniatures, and was an absolute joy to paint!
I normally paint my models from the inside out, flesh, underwear, clothes armour weapons, but this time i did it differently... The first thing I painted was the fur - I wanted a textured feal to the fur (especially in this scale) and so I drybrushed all the fur areas first so that I didnt get the paint on the flesh or other areas.
The flesh is my usual mix... Basecoat: GW Tanned Flesh + Vallejo US Olive Drab + GW Dwarf Flesh + GW Elf Flesh. Highlight: GW Elf Flesh and Vallejo Ivory. Shading: Green and brown ink.
The NMM steel was a gradient from black to white as follows: Black > P3 Ironhull Grey > London Grey > Pale Greyblue > gloss white (as it is smoother than the normal vallejo white).
I normally like painting jewels on my barbarians, tokens of war so to speak, but there just wasnt any real place for them on such a well established character as Thrud. To make up for this I painted the steel plates on his belt in a similar way, just in the steel colours - I think it worked well!
The blood is a mix of red, brown and black ink and gloss varnish.
