Dark Angel Captain

Dark Angel Captain
Description : This mini was converted to be taller than regular Space Marine figure. The legs were cut from the groin and also separated at the knee and feet. The upper legs then had a spacer of plasticard added. The legs were then pinned to the groin, the lower legs were repositioned as were the feet. All gaps were then filled with greenstuff. The torso was also slightly bulked out with plasticard, and finally the area between the groin and torso was slightly filled with greenstuff to add another little bit of height.
The completed figure stands at 38mm instead of the usual 32mm.
The figure was painted using GW paints. The armour was painted using Dark Angel Green, shaded with DA green and Scorched brown and highlighted with Space Wolf Grey. The red Cloak and sword both started with a basecoat of 50:50 Red Gore and Chaos Black. The cloak was highlighted up to Blood Red whereas the sword was highlighted up to white. The helmet was painted with Bleached Bone and highlighted with Skull White.

Thanks for Looking

John.

ahhh, saw this guy over on CMON! The helmet doesn't look right to me, just 'feels' out of place. I really do love the weathering and the freehand on the cloak, base feels a bit plain too. Very nice work!

The helmet seems to be most peoples gripe with this mini, I know what they mean also. The thinking behind it was to tie him to the Deathwing as a veteran but keep the DA feel as I envisage him being in charge of one of the other companies and not the 1st or 2nd companies.

I have no criticism about the painting, i like expecially the weathering.I'm not too found about the legs augmentation but it's your project so it's ok if you like it.

The weathering is a great touch, although a few of the chips/slashes don't look 100% correct to me. I love the painting on the red cloak, the highlighting especially. A couple rays on the design don't look quite as cleanly painted as the rest, not sure if that's just the way the shading/weathering comes off in the photo though.
