This is one of my favourite figures, Phytia of Azael. I painted her cape two shades of rainbow. Light on the inside and dark on the outside.
I started out by applying the shades of the cape first, covering it in dark colours with the most smooth blend possible. From there on I started to highlight as smoothly as possible to keep the transitions even. I did the same thing on the inside, starting with the shadows and lighting up from there, but I started out with a much lighter colour to begin with.
I'm still learning how to make the best of my pictures, but I guess it's a learning experience for all of us at one point. ;)

The cape is a great idea, and nicely executed. the fades between colours and highlighting on the back of the cape are particularly nice. Part of me thinks I'd like to have seen more neutral colours on the rest of the figure. i find the blues on the torso and waist blending in a bit with the blues on the cape.
