Trollgrim Cornerman by Zaphod

Trollgrim Cornerman by Zaphod
Description : Phew!!! After ages since I entered, and a very long time since I painted, I present one of Newbold World's Trollgrim! This is the Cornerman for the boxing team. I did up the Heavyweight as well and both can be seen in my shared folder.
The blues are a vast assortment of paints, ranging from an Oxford blue in the shadows, through Ultramarine blue and enchanted blue. For th ehighlights, I used some VGC Dead flesh to shift the color towards green slightly. The other interesting thing is the metals, where i have tried using only washes of opaque paints to simulate rust, shadows and the like. It willt ake more experimentation, but I really like the effect, and I will likely never use inks again on metals!!!

WOW! He looks great! THe metal bucket looks amazing. The only nitpick I can find has nothing to do with you...but the sculpt creates an interesting focal point...all the flods of his pants point toward his crotch, thus the highlighting...well...hehehe.

Great mini!

I forgot to mention, his right boot vs. his left boot, and the inside of his arms vs. the outside of his arms are spot on. That's exactly the shade differential I was refering to while commenting on one of the other minis. Also, what glazes did you finish the skin tone with? I think I can tell, but I'm not sure.

I love the character of the Trollgrim, and the painting you did on this one turned out great. I particularly like the contrast on the towel and how it looks against the colour of his hair, the very real looking sponge, the rust and his intense facial expression.

Thanks for the comments! Hi Jeff! Now you got me thinking LOL. I still have about 2 dozen paint bottles on my desk from both these guys (and half were already put away hehe). I think I used the same dead flesh for a faint wash on his nose, ears and elbows... For the sores, I started with scar red around them, but it was too bright IMO, so I toned it down with a light orange glaze. Seems barely noticeable actually. Maybe it's time to bolder the glazes in spots. The boxer has amuch more noticeable orange tint in spots :p

I thought you had glazed a bit of blue-green into the flesh. You might try a thinny-thin-thin glaze of something like Reaper Pro Amehtyst, or another dark purple...I think with the purple towel, the blue jump suit, and the yellow sponge (great complimentary color), it would really finish the mini out. It still looks great, and I wouldn't blame you if you didn't change a thing!
