Iron Giants

Iron Giants "Father"
Description : This is the Lord of the current Chaos Space Marines army I have recently been working on. This model was an interesting experience and as I like to use all sorts of different items in construction, I had some excellent experiences which will no doubt add to my conversions repertoire.

The extra mechandrite claws are constructed using both bass guitar string and thin plastic rod. The claws are a fine sliver of square tubing cut diagonally and then glued and GSed into shape on the end of the arms.

The rest is pretty straightforward build-wise, other than a few symbols filed off and some GS chainmail added here and there. I also added a skull from Eureka miniatures to his chest with some fine jewellers chain.

For the paint method I used my own "lazy" style, which is a mix of layering, blending, washes and juices. The basic premise is to water the paints down to the consistency of a juice and then wash the model liberally with that. This is the first few layers, and as you get further into the model, reduce the amount of paint you use. More or less reverse highlighting. Then after the base layers are added, I'll go back in, add the details, and the re-apply more of my washes, but in a more discriminating manner.

The lava is simply a mixture of layering and wet-blending with the colours traversing the spectrum from black through red to yellow. Then a final layer of gloss is applied afterwards.

I could go on for pages with the description of methods used here, so I'll stop there for now...

Finally!!! A Chaos character that looks chaotic. Great conversion, nice painting, and too many wonderful details for me to even try to comment on. I would have liked to see another angle, and although your lighting is spectacular, the background is distracting. Great job...I love the glowing mini-claws, and the face is brooding.

A+!

That's got to be one of the prettier 40k armies I've seen in a long time. The conversions and scenic bases make them really stand out, even at arms' length or in group shots which is a hard thing to do.

There's a lot going on with this guy, and some of it's a little murky to my eye, but the overall effect is attractive. I particularly like the lava and its OSL.

I agree with Wren! The face could get some more attention or maybe the metallics but the overall result is more than enough to create a top mini! Great job!

Really cool! The lava base came off perfectly, but I just can't dig the blue lighting... Maybe it just needs to be brighter, and the blue on the gold shoulder piece seems too dark to be lighting.

Otherwise, fantastic!!!
