I paint a lot of female miniatures, and usually in a pretty clean style, so I wanted to take care with this one to make him masculine and a little more weathered. I mixed some orange-brown into my base skin shade to create a darker and more rugged skin base. The same green used on the bracer was mixed into that for shading, and during the highlighting stage the skin was glazed a few times with a brighter orangey-brown to keep the highlights from getting chalky and to add more depth. The initial colour used to rim the eyes was much too dark for a male character, and I also went a little too red with the lips. I painted over the lips with a neutral brown and toned down the eye rims with glazes of the skin colour.
I used a lot of glazes on this figure. I wasn't happy with how the base colours came out initially, so I used glazes of greens on the earthen areas and red browns on the rocks to shift the colours. Similar colours were lightly glazed on to the weapons and clothing to give them more of a used and worn look. I wasn't aiming for rust and grime, just trying to knock off the showroom floor clean look.

Excellent mini...the skin tones are spot on, and the NMM is great. I have 2 tiny little crits...the eyes look a bit like he's got eyeliner on, but judging by the closeup shots on CMON, I think it's the sculpt. The other thing is very nitpicky...but perhaps a few choice glazes of darkish browns, like maybe VMC Saddle Brown to the steel parts would tie in those blueish steels a bit more. Really though...it's a spectacular model, and it really doesn't "need" anything...I think I'm sunk! LOL
