Galhyans front side

Galhyans front side
Description : This is Galhyan, Héliaste Cynwäll by Rackham!
The base is like always out of cork and normal sand. And one half of a COII zombie shield.
The shield was based with Luftwaffen Blue #105 and highlightet with white (but mostly only highlightning the edges) after it dried complitly I started weathering it. Starting wih thin layers of Black Red #035; then 50:50 #035+Oragne Brown #131; pure #131 and a mix with #131 and a tiny bit of Flat Yellow #015; after drying I smoked it and layered a few green layers onto the bottom were the shield comes out of the ground. And I “resharped” some of the edges with pure white.
The skin was based with a mix of cork brown #133 and Basic Skintone #017, highlightet till pure #017, + Light Flesh #006-pure #006,
His armour was done nearlly like my other Cynwälls. Based with Light Sea Grey #108, shaded with Azure #062 and this time Royal Purple #045 (instead of the normal Ultramarine version) And highlightet it back up to #108 and white.
His hair, which is not really shown was based like the shield with 105 and highlightet with Flat Aluminium #151
His shirt and boots were based with a 75:25 mix of Oxford Blue #049 + Deck Tan#110, shaded with #049, highlightet till pure #110 and a final mix of #110 + Offwhite #004
The violet gems were based with Violet #047, highlightet right away with Violet Blue #046 and with 3 mixes of #046+white and pure white.
The goldparts were based with Dark Yellow #116 shaded with Falt Earth #143, highlightet back up to #116 and then white.
Because of Galhyans background I wanted to make his masks all in different colors...it cost me quite some time to figure out which colors! I decided that the one in his left hand would be like the goldparts, the one on his right side like his armour, the one in his right hand like a smaragdmask! Baseing it with Balck Green #100 and highlightning it with a tiny bit of Emerald #071 and white. When I came to the fourth mask I didn’t have any idea left how to paint it so I simply decided it had to be a contrast to his violet armour! I based it a 75:25 mix of Stone Grey #104 and #105, and highlightet it with #104 + Ivory #005 till a final 50:50 mix of #005 + white.
The thing were his sword is in (sorry don’t know the english word for it) was based with French Mirage Blue #059 on the lower side and shaded with a bit of #105,highlightet back up to #059 and till pure Grey Blue #061. The upper side was based right away with #061 and highlightet till pure Pale Blue #064 and a bit of white.
Here I want to say a special merci to Fredy for telling me his white robes recipe, for without it I still would know how to paint a white robe.
I made a huge mix using a lot of Offwhite #004, a medium amount of Stone Grey #104, a bit of Balck #169 & Prussian Blue #051, and a tiny bit of Extra Dark Green #099...to get some sort of a “light grey” which I use as the basecolor for the white robe. Next up I shaded the hollows till pure black. And now started to highlight it back up to the “light grey” and till pure Offwhite #004...and always keeping to color very diluted and applying very thin layers so that the color beneath still shines through a bit. After all has dried I mix the same colors again starting from the light grey till pure #004 and repeating the highlightning to smooth it out. In total I think I had to repeat that step 4 times till everything was smooth enough and all bright surfaces pure #004. And for the final highlights I used pure white. The important thing for me was to paint the robe in an “cold” white and avoiding any warm colors with a beige/yellow touch. The freehands were done with a 00 Winsor & Newton in the same colors like the armour.
And finally the glowing of his halo was made with thin layers of Lime Green #077 and getting brighter with Ice Yellow #013 and white. And the halo itself was first based with #013, shaded with #077 and highlgihtet back up till white.

Uff!...damn long description!
Cheers Tom

Tom,

A very nice mini. The white cloak is simply breathtaking. Perhaps the best treatment for white I've seen. The blue on scabbard is also well done, very rich looking.

Your blending is incredibly smooth - especially on the white. A very difficult color to pull of so well.

Love the highlighting. White is so very hard to pull off & you've done really well. The cape's treatment is superb.

Beautiful piece!. The color pallette is spot on, and the execution is flawless. Awesome!.
