This is my first attempt at free hand. Personally I think it turned out rather nice.
I started painting last summer, but after about a 9 months break I picked up my brushes again. I usually don't finish minis because I tend to start on something new as often as I can, leaving a great deal of minis unfinished in my closet.
Usually I start out with a midtone to add shades and highlights, but with this mini I started out with the shades and went lighter from there on. I realised this helps me do the colourflows from dark to light more easily because I don't have to keep un turning from light to dark and back to highlights again. Now I just start with a dark colour and go lighter from there. No flipping back anymore.
The free hand was done in several shades as well, starting with a dark draft and highlighting it from there. This allowed me to quickly mask mistakes.
Other than that I still see myself as a beginner and hope to pick up some more techinques here.
