Widowmaker Captain

Widowmaker Captain
Description : One of my favourite Warmachine minis. It was also good opportunity to test Reaper Master Series paints. After zenithal basecoating the model I`ve started with the part I like painting the most - face. I mixed Reaper MS fair skintone shadow with citadel dark flesh and used it as a base colour (IMHO this MS set is too light so I`ve darkened it with dark flesh). Next coat was pure fair skintone shadow. Then I`ve started highlighting with fair skintone and a little touch of fair skintone highlight. as I wanted to give the modela a bit of winter theme I mixed fair skintone with citadel blood red and glazed areas around cheeks.
after a year of painting only nmm I`ve decided to try out metallics on this one. The result cost me my nerves - that may sound strange but it seems i forgot how to use those metallic paints!
for the reds I`ve used reaper ms deep red, ms blood red and citadel blood red.
for greens - citadel catachan green highlighted with a strange pinkish skintone colour. it "broke" the colour nicely, so I got "worn uniform" colour I wanted.
for the base I`ve used broken cd for the stone plates and baking soda for snow. i`ve also wanted to give it an extra touch and i thought that some icicles would look nice. at first i wondered how to make them but then i came with an idea to use hot glue gun and it worked.

This is an excellent paint job, very realistic and subtle. The base suits it perfectly.
The metallics are really good. How did you paint the steel part of the rifle? It looks so "real."

I`ve painted steel areas with Reaper MS Shadowed steel and highlighted with MS honed steel. then i make a couple of washes with mixes of chestnut, blue, purple and black inks. then i made corrections with honed steel and final highlights with humbrol enamel paint.

I really like the face on this one, Przemas! You've nailed the reddish, frost-bitten look and the face enhances the overall cold feeling of the mini.

Great mini. As mentioned just before the face really does look cold.

Indeed the face is excellent. Perhaps the knuckles could use some pink to continue the overall cold feeling. Metallics look good, the fur could perhaps use a bit more shading, though the majority should still be white.

The mini looks great, but why does she wear Santa's clothes? ;)

Howdy - quite well done. I truly like the face and hand tones. The used cd parts is brilliant (runs off to steal idea -lol) peace

Excellent job, she looks so determined. I really like the red too.

@Michal - expect more "santa claus" khador ;). i really like the way white goes with red (and not because i`m from Poland :) )and i don`t mind association with santa :D. well, maybe i was subconsiously influeced by santa warjack pic that PP released before christmas?

Love this mini and I love your painting of it also. The skintones are excellent and really enhance the whole figure.

Well done.
