My Sculpt of Morghur Beastman Special Character

My Sculpt of Morghur Beastman Special Character
Description : This is my second entry into the GT's and I am really proud to share this with you all.
(see GT22 for my prev work and too see how much better this really is)
It is my first major sculpt and my first effort at source lighting and took
immense amount of time (a couple hundred hours start to
finish) but is far and away my best model this far. More
pics available at

I took my inspiration from the amazing artwork depicting
the character in the GW beasts of chaos army book rather
than the model they released. I wanted my character to be
imposing and for power to ripple from him - as such i
started with a bloodthirster as my base armature and built
from there. I also added ripples to the ground itself
eminating from where his staff touches the ground. I then
added a figure to his base representing the mutatiing
power of morghurs presence and showed it in mid
transformation. Also on the base I have included a sheild
with a checkerboard design fading away in proximity to
morghur. I feel this has really heped to create a strong
narrative and to emhasise both the sheer power and the
abilities that are attributed to this character.

I used the following colours on this model over a balck
Floquil primer coat:

SKIN/FUR:German Grey, Dark Grey, Basalt Grey and London
grey
I started with a dark base and then worked up layers of
soft freehand fur to give the skin a subtle texture

HAIR: SSCamoBlackbrown, Scorched Borwn, Bestial
Brown,Graveyard earth, Buff
Started dark, worked it up in numerous layers to create
transitions and give it a more natural soft feel and to
break up the uniformity

STAFF/STONES:Jade Green, Bilious Green Ghostly grey, black
ink.
I created some soft green source lighting around all the
stones hanging from his neck, the big one atop the staff
and from the transforming lower section of the staff onto
the rippling ground of the base.

NMM:German grey, Basalt grey and sky grey with smoke
Thanx to trovarion for his wonderful tutorials

BONE:SScamo Black brown blended into buff with tiny
touches of ivory

ROBES:thin layers of catachan green and camo green with
smoke washes adding the stains.

I hope you all enjoy!

Very good interpretation of Morghur! I was truly impressed by him when I read the story about him in the 'Beast of Chaos' book, so I was a bit dissapointed when I saw the GW official version. Therefore it is great to see there is people out there knowing how to do him probably! ;)

Awesome work, if you want criticism, I would say that you could brighten the piece of warpstone, but overall, everything looks great. Very nice.

Top notch James! Great modelling and well painted. Maybe a bit drab in color, but it's realistic.
My 1st place vote so far.

There's a lot going on there. I wish I could see some more angles to get it all figured out. Nice scultping work, and it looks like a good job with the brush as well.

Howdy - ok, the good (of which there is a lot) The skulls in the hair are inspired. The 'ripple' in the ground it amazing (I am going to have to borrow that hahhaah). The bad - perhaps more highlights on the cloth, and the staff handle looks weird for some reason. Awsome overall - peace

Fantastic story-telling, from the sculpt on through. I love the rippling ground. The whole piece is great.
